Throughout the Gospel, our Lord is especially attentive to persons suffering from sickness and illness. Jesus designated care of the sick as one of the primary tasks of his disciples. In Mt. 10:8; Jesus commands his disciples, “Heal the sick.” Christ gave this sacrament to the Church in order that God’s love and presence might be known and a source of hope and encouragement for people who are experiencing physical, spiritual or emotional suffering. The Anointing of the Sick imparts consolation, peace, and strength and unites the sick person with Christ is a profound way.
The sacrament of Anointing can be received by any Catholic whose health is in a critical state. At St. Dominic Church we offer the sacrament of Anointing at certain Healing Masses held at different times of the year. This sacrament is also always available upon request.
