“Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one’? So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God had joined together, let no man put asunder.” (Mt. 19:4-6)
In the very order of creation itself, God has disposed man and woman for each other to that they might live in love, be fruitful and through their married love become a sign of God himself. The Christian vocation of marriage is a powerful and needed witness of God’s love in our world.
Since the sacrament of Marriage is meant to be a life-long commitment between a man and a woman, the Church requires six months of preparation prior to a wedding date. If you are a Catholic and are wanting to be married in the Catholic Church please contact our parish office to receive the introductory letter that explains the marriage preparation process at St. Dominic Church. We are excited that you are considering this beautiful sacrament and we look forward in helping you prepare not just for the wedding day but, most importantly, for your life as husband and wife!
Sadly, sometimes marriages end and people experience divorce. Often, divorced people are left unsure of their standing within the Catholic Church. If you are divorced please know that you are welcome here at St. Dominic Church and one of our priests would be happy to meet with you to discuss your situation if you so wish. An option for the divorced person is the annulment process and the priest would be willing to share information with you regarding this.
